It's entirely possible to do professional grade digital art works by never paying a cent for software and staying 100% perfectly legal. Just look at the fine folks at this devianart group

In fact, this very website was made entirely of free and open source code, made with free and open source software on an open and free operating system.

fiona-clarke.com was created on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with GIMP 2.6.12 (current stable version 2.8 ), KompoZer 0.8b3 and a plethora of open source code found on the web. Even my server is running debian.

My point is, I want to see what you could build with open source software. Post your works of art here if you've used inkscape, the Gimp, blender or any other free and open source (FOSS) software. Bonus points if you also use an open operating system.

If you're running Ubuntu, fire up the software centre and download any of the mentioned software for free. Or on other platforms clicking on the links above will send you to their home pages.

An example of the fantastic artwork that can be done using free software

*disclaimer: this particular piece of artwork is not done by either myself, or Fiona Clarke it belongs to H1WO at deviant art and is for demonstration purposes only.
